1957 Under 19s graduate who had a slow start to his career, breaking the same shoulder twice within six months between the end of that season and 1958.
Once he finally got his go in 1960 Nilsson impressed as a rover and forward pocket, retaining his place in the side right through to the Grand Final triumph. After a delayed start due to a broken wrist in a practice match he was a regular again in 1961 but found opportunities limited in his last two years at the club when he played more as a wingman.
Dropped from the list in the 1964 pre-season, he moved to South Melbourne in 1964 where he spent two seasons.
In 1966 Nilsson became captain/coach of South Warrnambool.
