1989 Draft

1989 represented the lowest point in Melbourne's drafting history, with the combined eight pre-season and four mid-season players selected playing just seven games between them. Players from the pre-season draft added just seven more, and of the players who were traded in only Steven Clark played more than 20 matches.

Pre-Draft Trades
Steven Clark from Essendon for a third round selection
Michael Scott from Geelong for its last round selection
Trevor Spencer from Essendon for a first and third round selection
