Largest first quarter deficit overcome to win (47)
Shocked into action by a 10 goal first quarter blitz from the winless North, the Demons used their turn with the wind in the second term to mount their biggest ever comeback from a first quarter deficit to win. Eric Glass got three of their eight goals for the quarter. North had blown a big chance to register their first victory for the season, would go on to finish the year without winning a game.
Due to the late finish of the game the last ten minutes was played in semi-darkness, and it was hard for players and spectators to distinguish the ball. Percy Beames kicked both the goal that levelled the scores late in the match, and the point that put Melbourne in front.
The total of 28 behinds levelled the then league record for points kicked in a match.
Best were Vine, Taylor and La Fontaine. Charlie Longhurst was charged with attempted striking and suspended for four matches.

At the conclusion of the game the umpires waved one flag only to signify that there was a mistake in the posted scores. It is not clear what part of the posted score was wrong, or if there was any confusion over the result.
