First Game as Coach
Greg Hutchison
After the capitulation at Football Park against Port Adelaide the week before Neale Balme had been sacked during the week and replaced with caretaker Greg Hutchison and boosted by the heroic return of an unfit Garry Lyon, the stand-in won his first game in charge.
With Lyon's return the Demons were able to forward a much improved forward line on the one that had managed just three goals against Port. With Lyon, Craig Nettelbeck and Leigh Newton as targets to complement Jeff Farmer and Sean Charles they looked far more dangerous.
The Tigers led at half time, but they had been fading out of games all season and it happened to them again.
Best were Viney, Farmer and Gaspar. Matthew Febey was replaced in the selected side by Steven Febey due to a knee injury and Jeff Farmer hurt his heel.
Paul Hopgood was reported by the emergency umpire for striking Wayne Campbell during the third quarter but the charge was withdrawn.
