Guy "Lou" Reiffel was cleared from Ballarat Imperials in the week before the 1936 season began. He had won two premierships with the club before joining the Demons where he stayed for four years. He had initially been considered too small for league football by scouts from most teams.

He kicked a career high eight goals came in the Round 16, 1937 victory over Collingwood. When he left Melbourne after finding his opportunities limited in 1939 he was sought by a number of VFA clubs before joining South Melbourne. He played 29 games at South after joining them midway through 1939. He was their leading goalscorer in 1940.

His son Ron played six games for Richmond in 1951/1952, and grandson Paul was an Australian international cricketer.
