Casey Scorpions
After a successful alignment with Sandringham from 2000 to 2008, Melbourne switched affiliate with St. Kilda in an attempt to break into the growth area around Cranbourne and Casey.
Formed as Springvale in 1904, the Scorpions have won 23 premierships in various competitions and joined the VFA in 1982.
Springvale were first invited to join the VFA when the league added a second division in 1961 but elected to keep playing in the Federal Football League where they racked up another 6 flags before leaving the competition. Just one year later they were crowned VFA Division Two premiers, and in 1987 won the Division One title.
The Scorpions dominated the last days of a standalone VFA/VFL and won premierships in 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999. Their alignment with St. Kilda produced several finals appearances, but they haven't been back to the Grand Final since the 1999 triumph.
In 2006 the Scorpions changed relocated to Casey Fields, in Cranbourne East and changed their name from Springvale to Casey. They retained their alignment with St. Kilda after the move.
In June 2009 Melbourne and Casey signed a 30-year-deal to use the venue as a training ground and to promote the Melbourne Football Club brand in the south-east area. The club will undertake community programs at an estimated value of $630,000 per year.
As part of the agreement the ground is undergoing a development jointly funded by Casey council, the Melbourne Football Club, the AFL and the State Government. Melbourne's summer training facilities will be located at the ground for at least the next 30 years.
