Entering the second last game of the year with anything between a top four finish, and a Wildcard elimination game on offer, Melbourne cruised to an easy win over the 15th placed Port Adelaide.
Best were Kade Chandler, Max Gawn, and Bayley Fritsch. Jacob van Rooyen was suspended for three matches for rough conduct in a marking contest. Melbourne unsuccessfully challenged the ban at the AFL Appeal Board, and van Rooyen missed the start of the finals.
