Mature-age forward drafted after playing in a VFL premiership for Werribee. Melbourne had tracked Johnson since he played at Lavington, trying to recruit him for the Casey Demons before he joined Werribee. He debuted in the first game of the year, and was often used in the first half of the season as Melbourne's second ruckman to support Max Gawn. After a two match suspension in Round 12, Johnson spent the rest of the year in the VFL.
In 2026, Johnson played just one game as a late replacement for an injured player. He was delisted at the end of the season.
