The match was halted for nearby lightning shortly after Melbourne's first goal early in the first quarter. When the game resumed, Melbourne kicked six further goals before quarter time. They extended the lead to 37 points by half time, then a few minutes into the third quarter the game was called off after more lightning was detected within 10km of the ground.
Best were Windsor, Gawn, and Rivers. Luker Kentfield suffered a knee injury.
