Coming off a week of intense media scrutiny after their big loss in Perth a week earlier Melbourne responded with their biggest ever win against Adelaide.
Jack Grimes was substituted for Austin Wonaeamirri in the first quarter after suffering a broken foot which would ultimately end his season. Mark Jamar injured his knee and missed a month of football.
Best were Moloney, Sylvia and Jamar.
Jack Trengove was suspended for three matches for a rough conduct after a sling tackle on Patrick Dangerfield. He was initially offered two games by the Match Review panel but lost his case at the tribunal. A subsequent appeal upheld the verdict.
