After a week off for Victoria vs South Australia and VFL vs VFA matches the Fuschias returned to normal league action and got back in the winners circle, with a victory to keep them in touch with the top four. Footscray had been beset with internal strife but were still expected to do well on their home ground.

Melbourne's five goal to one second quarter was the difference, and they held Footscray to one in the third before marginally extending their lead during the last quarter.

The victory took Melbourne to four wins, one more than they'd had in all of 1933.

Kelly, La Fontaine and Beames were best. Football Record claimed Beames made "probably the most spectacular mark by a small man ever seen in League football".

Melbourne 13.15 d. Footscray 8.9
