Five in a row for the Reds, who for the second week in a row were challenged all the way - this time against one of the worst sides in the competition. It was only the second score of more than a hundred points for Hawthorn since joining the league - and their highest score as a VFL side.
In a high scoring match the Mayblooms took the lead shortly after half time, causing some worry for the Redlegs, and as the visitors failed to put their best performance forward it kept Hawthorn in the game.
Taylor, Dunbar and Wittman were best. Jimmy Davidson had cussion, Chadwick's leg was hurt by a kick and Corbett had a cut cheek.
The win put Melbourne on their own at the top of the league.
