Melbourne stuck close to the top of the table Hawks for the first few minutes, having a few failed entrances inside 50 and restricting their opponents from kicking their first goal for almost 13 minutes. They didn't score themselves, and soon found the gap was 22-0. Two late goals goal the Demons back into the match before they conceded a late goal.
The Hawks kicked away in the second term, and while Melbourne stuck with them in the second half they were much too far behind to challenge and were comfortably beaten.
Best were Jetta, Tyson and Gawn. Aidan Riley replaced Rohan Bail during the third quarter.
