The second last match of the season came after a break for an interstate match against South Australia and the Reds returned with their fourth victory of the season. The Melbourne home game was played at Punt Road because the MCG was occupied for a VFA finals match, and on a slippery ground only a small audience turned up to watch.

Melbourne debuted Eric Dimsey, who had also been named by Richmond but chose to play with the Redlegs. he played in a win on debut but only appeared in one more game.

Richmond had first use of the breeze but were unable to break through Melbourne's defence and conceded the first goal to Watt after a free kick. The Reds got the second as well, before Richmond hit back and the game went to quarter time with a one goal difference. Wind was not a factor as both sides kicked three goals in the second term, with Melbourne narrowly extending the gap by virtue of more points.

Best Lilley, McKenzie and Monk. Alf George was charged with elbowing Ted Ohlsen of Richmond and suspended for the last game of the season. He was the only player booked from a spiteful clash that saw a number of clashes and one player claiming he'd been kicked.
