Highest score in Round 12
With the memories of their upset round 1 victory still fresh, the Roys stayed with their more fancied opponents until quarter-time before superior strength and pace helped blow the Lions away.
On a perfect day for football with no rain and almost no wind, Fitzroy tried hard but were simply no match for the defending premiers who racked up their biggest win of the season to date courtesy of a 10 goal second quarter. It was their fifth score of over 100 points, compared to two for the whole 1956 season. Only easing up in the second quarter stopped the game from becoming an annihilation.
Best were Webb, Ridley and Adams. Bob Johnson was replaced by Turner at three-quarter time (bruised shin) and McLean by Dunsford during the last quarter.
