While Melbourne won handsomely against the hapless home side the scoreboard wasn't a true indicator of the game as for much of it the Saints had played football equal to their opponents but suffered for bad luck. It was their best performance of the season and for large parts of the game they had Melbourne fully extended to maintain their lead.
Best were Wardill, Moodie and McGinis.
