First Goal
Wally Sykes (8th game)
Wind and rain contributed to a game that was poor until the last quarter when Melbourne launched an unexpected rally. Entering the game with a weak team and stars Vin Coutie, Hugh Purse and Joe Canavan out injured, their diminished line played with heart. Still, when they were 34 points down at the last change the game looked lost. Then Melbourne launched an attack that got them within striking range during the final term before Carlton steadied to win.
Best were Pearce, Fitzpatrick and J. Gardner.
