The first female senior assistant coach in Australia with WAFL side West Perth, Cowan also worked for South Fremantle and as a talent scout for Geelong.
She coached the Melbourne FC Women from 2012 through 2016, also serving as a Player Development and Welfare Coach that year.
Once the AFLW competition began she joined Fremantle as senior coach, leading them in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
