Saturday July 22 - MCG
Crowd: 9000-10,000
Melbourne 1.15 (Unknown)
Carlton 2.11 (half time 0.7-0.4)
Carlton win by 1 goal
Goalkicker: Ulbrick 1
The winless streak reached nine as Melbourne crashed to yet another defeat on their own ground. They had an almost complete lineup, but it didn't help them avoid defeat.
Both sides managed to get to half time without conceding, but with rough play a feature the umpire Mr. Murphy came in for criticism from many sections of the crowd. Melbourne might have had the first goal after 30 minutes, but a shot by Ulbrick was touched through by one of his own teammates.
Melbourne displayed better teamwork and had more chances, but couldn't force a major. They had the first several behinds of the first half and eventually conceded the first of the game. Carlton got a second not long after and won what may have been considered a lucky victory.
Best were Aitken, Rannard and Booth.
Notes
Some sources have Carlton scoring 0.6 in the first half.
