Victorian state player - 1891
Tasmanian cricketer who played from 1890 to 1896, who played in two premierships for Launceston before leaving the state. He had debuted in senior football in 1886, aged 15.
He crossed to Melbourne in 1890 after being offered a job by Richard Wardill in the banking industry. He also played cricket for the MCC for four seasons. In his second football season he was chosen to represent Victoria.
Wilson almost retired before the 1894 season, but was lured back with difficulty and returned in the fifth game of the year. In 1895 he was promoted to vice-captain when Patrick O'Loughlin moved to Queensland in June. Two months later Eddie Fox retired and Wilson took the top job.
He remained captain through 1896 before retiring to concentrate on playing bowls.
