The winner of the best and fairest in the WAFL Colts competition in 2012, Kent was drafted by the Demons at the end of the season. He made his AFL debuted early in 2013 after impressing in the VFL.

As the season progressed he worked his way into the Demons' forward line, and became a valuable contributor in the last weeks of the season despite only playing in one win for the year.

Kent added another 13 games for 12 goals in his second season, playing two games early in the year before breaking back into the senior side in Round 13, 2014 and retaining his spot for the rest of the year. In the last game of the season he kicked a career high three goals.

In Round 4, 2015 he suffered a serious hamstring injury and didn't play another senior game for the year, returning to the VFL late in the season.

2016 was his best year yet, only missing two games and kicking a career high goal tally, before a disappointing 2017 where he only played six games and had his season ended with a shoulder injury in Round 17.

After playing three games early in 2018 a hamstring injury put him out of the side. He returned for two games at the end of the season, kicking a vital goal to help Melbourne into the finals against West Coast, before suffering a shoulder injury early the next week and missing the finals campaign.

At the end of 2018 he was traded to St Kilda for National Draft selection #65, playing four seasons with the Saints before retiring. Played for Devon Meadows in 2024, before being elevated to coach in 2025.
