The brother of Jamie Duursma started 1986 with Sydney, then trained with Essendon and Hawthorn before joining Sandringham mid-season after moving to Victoria. He later played Under 19s with Melbourne, returning in 1988 wearing number 48 in Reserves games but didn't play seniors.

Played in a flag at North Hobart in 1989. Played six games in total for Sandringham in 1986 and 1991. Named on a half-back flank in the Rochester team of the century alongside his brother. Also played for Tarwin, Koo Wee Rup and Cora Lynn.

Coached Yarram in 2006, then Foster.

His son Xavier debuted for Port Adelaide in 2019.
