Project player bought the club to play Under 19s in 1990. He then spent the first half of 1991 in the Reserves, before the club was forced to delist him midway through that year when immigration law changes meant he couldn't be farmed out to a suburban club in the same fashion as Jim Stynes. A reduction in list sizes meant the Demons couldn't justify holding him.
At one stage he was out for several months with a broken leg suffered playing in a local Gaelic Football competition. Tohill then returned to County Derry and played in an All-Ireland final victory in 1994.
With Richmond and Sydney also interested in his services Melbourne tried to lure the Gaelic star back to the club in 1996 but he resisted offers to return as he'd become married and had a steady job. Played for Ireland in the 1998 and 2001 International Rules series against Australia. In 2010 he coached Ireland.
Tohill's son Anton joined Collingwood for the 2019 season. He played one game for the Magpies in 2021.
