In a game rescheduled from Sunday due to Brisbane's COVID-19 related fixture congestion, the home side didn't look like the one coming off a four day break early. They trapped the ball in their forward line, kept the Demons goalless, and kicked the first 23 points lead without reply. Alyssa Bannan got Melbourne's only goal of the first half, before the visitors took over in the third quarter.
Melbourne hit the lead early in the last term, led by a dominant performance where Tayla Harris equalled the record for contested marks in an AFLW game, but couldn't extend the margin beyond a goal. Brisbane had a chance to win after the siren, with a kick by Greta Bodey - who had a similar chance in the last meeting between the sides - fell short. The 23 point comeback was the largest in an AFLW game to that point.
