Melbourne win by 33 points
In their first official hitout for the season, the Demons ran away from Adelaide against the wind in the last quarter. The game had swung on the wind until then, with the sides trading leads at the end of the each quarter before superior fitness helped Melbourne to a four goal to one last quarter.
The match was notable for a strong performance by Christian Petracca, who had 38 disposals and 27 contested possessions - which would have broken the club record in a regular match.
Best were Petracca, Oliver and Viney. Fritsch, Jordon (late replacement for Joel Smith) and J. Wagner were unused emergencies.
