On the coolest Darwin day in years, 80mm of rain fell and kept scoring low. The locals got off to a fast start - including a goal to ex-Demon Fabian Francis, but only managed one more major all day. Their slight three-quarter time lead disappeared when they didn't score at all in the last, allowing Melbourne to run over the top.
Best were Charles, Lovell and S. Febey. Future Demon Scott Chisholm was named best for the NTFL.
