Victorian state player - 1971

A dour and dogged defender recruited from St Pat's College Ballarat, Sullivan played mainly on a half back flank. After just 8 games in his first three seasons, including his first year spent in the reserves as he couldn't break into the strong Demon defence but finished second in the reserves B&F, Sullivan became a regular in 1969. In 1970 he played all 22 games.

Tough and relentless, he represented Victoria against WA in 1971. Sullivan was a close checking player who was a coach's dream. He didn't win many awards but finished in the top six in the best and fairest voting half a dozen times.

In the early 1980's Sullivan coached Waverley in the VFA.

Sullivan's son Chris would play 27 games with the Demons (and 8 with Richmond) during the 1990's.
