After two losses, Melbourne bounced back with a win built on a strong defensive performance. They struggled to kick goals after quarter time, but were miserly in keeping the Blues to just six goals for the evening. Carlton reduced the margin to nine points with the first goal of the last quarter, but the home side got the only other goal of the game and held on to win.

Best were Petracca Viney, and Langdon. James Harmes replaced the concussed Jake Bowey in the third quarter, and was suspended for one match for rough conduct.
