The best Thirds player in the league during 1948, Harvey graduated to the Seconds to be added to the senior list late in 1949. He played two games of senior football as a rover/forward the next season before joining VFA side Prahran in 1950 pre-season. Remained there until 1961, playing his first 142 games consecutively and winning four best and fairest awards.
