Centre half-forward who Showed promise but suffered injuries during the year and was restricted to six games. In 1928 he'd intended to join North Melbourne but was prevented from joining them by a permit technicality. Wodonga had let him go but the VFL didn't get the clearance from his league in time, and Nolan instead remained in the country.
In 1932 Nolan applied for a clearance to Melbourne, which was queried by North Melbourne officials, who believed his clearance from 1928 was valid, requiring the league's past records to be produced to show the clearance hadn't been made official. He was able to join Melbourne without a clearance as his previous club Maryborough had folded.
Nolan played six games for Melbourne in 1933 and was cleared to Wangaratta early in 1933, and kicked 85 goals in a premiership season. In 1934 he joined Leeton.
Nolan's brothers Clarrie and Jack played league football with North Melbourne.
