Ankle and leg issues hindered Strauss early in his first season on the Demons list before suffering a shoulder injury in the VFL which ended his season without playing a senior match.

Impressed in the 2010 pre-season and earned a call-up to make his debut in the first round of the season. He played the next week but was dropped and spent the rest of the year at Casey.

Recalled into the senior side in 2011 he played nine of ten matches between Round 11 and Round 20 before suffering an horrific double break of the leg against Carlton which ended his season and much of the next.
