The pacy centreman was pursued by several league clubs before joining Melbourne. He had a delayed start to the 1932 season while battling an ankle injury and the mumps. He debuted in Round 6 and played nine games total for the season.

He returned to Stawell in 1933 while trying to win a clearance, then moved to Essendon for 1934. After three years with the Bombers he returned to Stawell for a third time.
