The competition returned to one ladder after the previous use of A and B conferences.

Fixtures were regularly altered due to COVID19 related travel restrictions. Melbourne was originally scheduled to play St Kilda in Round 3 before the opposition became North Melbourne. For the rest of the season the fixture was gradually announced.
